9:50 am Sunday School & Other Study Classes
Andrew Sunday School Class
The Andrew Class is named after the disciple Andrew. Rather than utilizing a traditional Sunday School study book, recently the class has been studying scripture and topics directly from the Bible. This approach is designed to create a greater understanding and interest as we all learn from each other. The class meets in the church library each Sunday morning, join us any time.
Children's Church (During 11:00am-Tradtional Sun. Service)
Salem United Methodist Church offers Preschool and Elementary children a time of worship that is all their own. After the offering, during the 11:00 am service, children are invited to go with their teacher to our upstairs Children facilities. There, they will enjoy crafts, games, snacks, and a great lesson centered on Christ's love. The teacher will take them to the Fellowship Hall where parents pick them up after the 11:00 am service.
Children’s Sunday School Class
The Children’s Sunday School class meets every Sunday in the Spero Café’ upstairs. We are currently using the Whirl Curriculum which follows the lectionary calendar. This curriculum is set up for both age groups from Pre-K to 2nd grade and 3rd grade to 5th grade. The curriculum is easy to utilize and the video is entertaining for both age groups while sharing God's Word in a way children can understand. The Sunday school class is led by Kim Stralow.
Christian Values Sunday School Class
A multigenerational class whose curriculum is chosen by the members of the class. The members of the class participate in a discussion based on current events and curriculums. The class meets in the classroom located next to the library, come join us!
During our 8:45 am service, 9:50 am Sunday School and 11:00 am service children from birth to 3 years are welcome to join our nursery staff for fun and creative spiritual care. Our Nursery is staffed with educated, experienced individuals who have a passion for young child care. All staff have successfully completed background checks. Our Nursery is located just beyond the Fellowship Hall, near the Main Office.
The Ray Bowen/Joy Sunday School Class
This class utilizes an Adult Bible Study series. There are weekly lessons to read in preparation for the Sunday morning group study, along with short additional related daily scripture passages to help in our understanding of the week's scripture. Three of our members take turns leading the class and everyone is welcome to join in the discussion. You are welcome to join at any time. Currently our class consists of senior ladies but we'd welcome all who want to come study and learn with us! The group meets in the classroom closest to the sanctuary on the same side of the hall as the restrooms.
Young Adults Sunday School Class
This group of young adults focuses on exploring the Word of God through the lens of everyday life and how it applies to what we go through, experience, and think about. They meet in the conference room next to the main office.
Youth Sunday School Class
Salem offers a Youth Sunday School class for teens in the 6th to 12th grades. The year is divided into 4 quarters of lessons: First Quarter - Lent/Confirmation; Second quarter - a Bible Study; Third quarter - a study that relates to the teens everyday live; and Fourth quarter- an Advent/Christmas Program. This is a valuable time where the teens can get to know more about the Bible and how God wants them to live their lives. The class meets upstairs.
Wednesday - Lectionary Bible Study
This class provides a laid back setting to explore the scriptures. It is a comfortable group where you don’t need to know much about the Bible to participate. We read four scriptures each week (one from the Old Testament, usually one from the Psalms, one from the gospels (stories of Jesus life) and one from another part of the New Testament). We talk about what we find interesting, questions we have, and how the scriptures apply to our lives. Please join us anytime! The group meets on Wednesdays, at noon, you're welcome to bring your lunch.
More Ministry Groups
Whether you are formally trained or a shower singer who can’t read music, if you have a passion for singing God’s praise, join us every Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the fellowship hall to prepare for leading the congregation in worship through music. Led by our Choir Director, Don Thames, the choir leads the congregation in musical worship for our Sunday 11:00 am Traditional Service.
Men’s Brotherhood Breakfast
The Men’s Breakfast is a chance to meet many of the men of SUMC and share in Christian fellowship. Each gathering consists of fellowship, lifting up our praise and concerns, and a devotional. Although the attendees are mainly from Salem UMC, any Christian man is welcome. Our goal is to get to know each other personally and support one another. We meet at 7:45 am each Wednesday at the Country Kitchen Restaurant next to the Oak Valley Publix. Come help us attempt to solve local, state and world problems while developing a great Christian relationship with the men of SUMC.
Moses Baskets is a group that meets the first and third Tuesday morning at 9:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. Laundry baskets are transformed through quilting and crafting to provide a special bassinet for needy newborns. Moses Baskets are dedicated each fourth Sunday during our 11am service, and donated to local pregnancy centers. If you enjoy sewing, crocheting or knitting, this is wonderful way of helping young mothers in their time of need.
Prayer Circle Team
A small group of people meet in the library Wednesdays at 11:30am to pray over the prayer requests given on the preceding Sunday. We also pray for those on our prayer bulletin insert from previous weeks and other needs on our hearts. This is a time we share in the care and support of one another. If you have a heart for prayer, want to have a fuller prayer life or prayer has been a powerful part of your walk with Christ, this group is for you!
Salem Speroes - Youth Group
The Salem Speroes meet regularly on Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm in our upstairs cafe. The group time consist of a real life Bible-based lesson, activities, and the all-important meal! The group has many activities outside of the church which include concerts, camp outs, retreats, community events, and outreach projects. Speroes means "hope" in Latin, and we believe the youth is the hope for our future at Salem. Youth worker volunteers and/or those willing to provide a meal for the youth are always welcome.
